STUTTGART BACH EDITION
Carus-Verlag, in collaboration with the Bach- Archiv Leipzig, has completed its ‘Bach vocal’ project. The complete choral and orchestral material of all the motets, masses, passions, oratorios, and over 200 sacred cantatas are published separately and in 23 volumes in three slipcases – all showing the current state of Bach research and all including a singable English text. The general editors are Ulrich Leisinger and Uwe Wolf.

GUILD OF CHURCH MUSICIANS
The Guild has awarded Honorary Fellowships to Rosemary Field (RSCM Deputy Director). to Katherine Dienes-Williams (Guildford Cathedral) and to hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith. The presentation will be at Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday 7 July.
LEEDS CAROL COMPETITION
Leeds Philharmonic Society is delighted to announce that the winning entry of its Carol Competition is Christmas Bells by Chris Artley, who was born in Leeds and raised in Yorkshire. Chris now lives in New Zealand and teaches at King’s College, Auckland. Christmas Bells was sung by Leeds Philharmonic Chorus in Leeds Town Hall
at the Lord Mayor’s Carol Concert on 14 December, conducted by Richard Wilberforce and accompanied by organist Alan Horsey. The work is being published by the RSCM.

HOLY WEEK FESTIVAL

The 2018 Holy Week Festival is a week of choral workshops, lunchtime and evening concerts, and services. Artists include Tenebrae, Ex Cathedra, Gabrieli, Polyphony, the Tallis Scholars and the Temple Church Choir. There are rare opportunities to hear lesser-known works, including a complete performance of Rodion Shchedrin’s The Sealed Angel by the Choir of King’s College, London. Also taking part are the Gesualdo Six, who were St John’s Smith Square’s 2015/16 Young Artists and are themselves a subset of
RSCM’s Millennium Youth Choir from
an earlier generation.

ORGAN PLAYING COMPETITION

Cambridge and Peterborough
The Incorporated Association of Organists (IAO) and the Royal College of Organists (RCO) have launched a new competition
for organists between the ages of 18 and 26.
It will be held during the 2018 IAO Music Festival in Peterborough, and as well as a first prize of £1,000 it offers recital opportunities for prizewinners in Westminster Cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral, St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham and the Royal College
of Organists.
Six competitors will be chosen from recordings to participate in the semi-finals in Cambridge on Wednesday 1 August. From there, three competitors will be selected
to go through to the final on the Hill organ in Peterborough Cathedral on Thursday
2 August. The adjudicators will be Martin Baker (Westminster Cathedral and President of the RCO), Steven Grahl (Peterborough Cathedral and President of the IAO) and Professor Edward Higginbottom (former Director of Music, New College, Oxford).

CHURCH MUSIC & WORSHIP CONFERENCE

Durham University and Durham Cathedral Following the success of the York Conference on Church Music in February 2017, the organizing committee for Church Music & Worship is hosting a two-day international conference in Prior’s Hall, Durham Cathedral and the Pemberton Rooms, Durham University on 27 and 28 April 2018. Keynote addresses will be given by Jeremy Dibble (Professor in the Department of Music, Durham University) and the Revd Dr Maggi Dawn (Dean of Marquand Chapel and Associate Professor of Theology and Literature, Yale University, USA). Other papers will engage with a range of perspectives on church music and worship, from academic and practice-based viewpoints.
