Timothy Dudley-Smith RIP
We are very sad to share the news of the passing of Bishop Timothy Dudley-Smith, aged 97. Bishop Timothy was the foremost hymn-writer of his generation and was the author of over 400 hymns. His hymns are included in most hymnbooks published in the past 50 years, including 41 hymns in Ancient & Modern Hymns & Songs for refreshing worship (2013), and RSCM is very proud to have published 5 collections of his hymns.
Timothy Dudley-Smith was awarded an OBE and FRSCM for his services to hymnody. Previously the Bishop of Thetford, he lived in Salisbury for a number of years and was a regular and welcome visitor to the RSCM office. He then moved to Cambridge to be closer to his family and died on the morning of Monday 12 August.
